I was in a cell phone store store in walmart.and asked could they charge my phone while i went shopping. They agreed and when i pulled it out.they began asking questions.Soon I am demonstrating the phone to three employees and one other shopper all at once .The employees didn't even know about it.Then the fatal question...where can i get one came up.I simply said you probably cant right now. This phone is all i expected plus more!.The call quality is great. The speaker phone works well. But this operating system is so very smooth that i wont be changing from windows os any time soon.Ive had the big two.I phone 4. Samsung Android .And they have some good things about them respectively but this phone one ups them. The build quality is as good or better than the i phone. For ease of use.Graphics.Animation.res ponce to touch and one hand texting. But added with the zune experience. The omled screen. This is the best kept secret!.The only reason i didn't give it five stars was because of Dell shot itself in the foot for not getting this phone into peoples hands on time. Finally you have a product that really surpasses others and you dropped the ball big time. Its not the phone. Its bad planning. They really have a winner and only a few people know it.If you've ordered one don"t jump out of line.eventually this thing should catch fire.

Cnet mobile tech editors: Please do a story on Dell's delay of the Venue Pro. Lots of customers complaining on the web that they were assured that their orders had shipped or were ready to ship, but then told their phones would not arrive until 2011. Dell is also seemingly not being honest when explaining the delay. This is customer service at it's absolute poorest!

Dell left many customers like me in dust of their "we don't care" Therefore I will not keep this phone at all. I will avoid Dell as much as I can.
HTC or Samsung would be my way. Goodbye Dell.

WHATS TAKING SO LONG FOR THIS PHONE TO GET A FULL REVIEW?

IF THIS WAS A IPHONE WE WOULD HAVE HAD SEVERAL REVIEWS ALREADY.

Pretty much all the normal 1st gen/early adopter issues apply here. When it works it is a fantastic device. Unfortunately you really can't place much faith in the fact that it will work for any prolonged length of time. I'f I didn't get the google voice emails on my desktop I'd after missed calls I wouldn't know about 60 percent of the calls I receive. At the moment I'm hopeful but not expectant of improvement (firmware upgrade).

The Dell Venue Pro is my first smartphone.

At first glance the Venue Pro is stunningly handsome. Everything about the device from the slide-out keyboard to the back panel work together to give the appearance of a high-end device that took no short-cuts. Its not until you remove the back panel that you realize where the plastic really is and the execution in the design of the panel is top notch. The back panel has a texture that makes it feel as if its more than just plastic and it's a welcome material upgrade.

The sliding function of the phone is very sturdy and secure. There is nothing about it that feels like an afterthought. The test here will be in how well the sliding function maintains that sturdy feel over time.
Initially I thought I'd have a lot of difficulty typing on the keyboard as the characters are fairly small but the phone rests very comfortably in my hands and allows for fairly easy typing.

The Venue Pro is a little on the heavy side but its not a deal breaker. I'd feel more comfortable handling the phone if I had a nice jacket to wrap it in but I'd hate to cover up its beauty.

The display quality is sharp. Colors are vibrant and video playback is very satisfying.

The USB connector on the Venue Pro is fairly snug. I'm not sure if this is bad or good but I'm satisfied.
I was impressed with the volume of the speakers but discovered that they can be easily overcome in the crowded space of a restaurant or subway system.

The volume and camera buttons float just above the casing but can seem sometimes difficult to operate, however, its not a problem.

What I don't love about the Venue Pro:
The headset is an absolute afterthought however, that's the industry standard and it's not a problem for me because I have premium headsets from Zune that I use instead.

Something that I don't quite understand is why Dell decided to slop the area where the headset plugs into the phone. What I have encountered is that because of the slope, many headsets will not seat properly on the Venue Pro. The resulting problem is that the display remains on despite your settings, ultimately draining your battery pre-maturely. I think it would have been a good idea to hollow-out the area immediately around the headphone jack to allow headsets from other manufacturers to seat properly.

Not sure if its just me but the charging/syncing cable seems rather short but not a deal breaker.

I GIVE DELL FOUR STARS FOR EXECUTION

Overall, this is an excellent phone. It blows away my two previous Android devices. The styling of the phone is also excellent, as its a big conversation starter. The build quality seems very good, as the phone has a nice feel to it and also sports Gorilla Glass. So far everyone I have shown the phone to really likes it. The WP7 OS is very smooth and responsive - and will only get better with all the planned updates MS has coming.

The other huge benefit of this phone (or any other WP7 device) is how it fits into the Dell + MS ecosystem. Integrates flawlessly with my Dell desktop/laptops, my Xbox 360, etc. To accomplish a smooth integration you should really sign up for Windows Live and the Zune Market. Both excellent services from MS - in fact I much prefer Zune to I-Tunes.
