I wanted to be able to start storing all of my important paper files on my computer so I could back them all up.
This thing is fast, works as expected, is easy to use.
The control software is a bit cumbersome. I don't like having to dig into a setting menu to change common options, and it would be nice to be able to make it so it doesn't ask you every time what you want to do with the document after it is scanned. Maybe remember what I did last time and do the same thing until I tell you to ask me again.

I just love this scanner. If you are looking for a no nonsense scanner to store your documents electronically. I use it everyday and it is wonderful.

CNET gave it great reviews, but PLEASE Notice the "M" in S510M - it stands for MACINTOSH.
