Hitachi CML174 price and reviews

Absolutely no ghosting with this LCD. Arrived with 0 defective pixels. Would definitely purchase again. Scales fairly well also. Recommend using with a video card that has a digital output for best picture quality. I don't think you can go wrong with this monitor.

Well the biggest problem with this LCD is the relative darkness of pictures(especially dark ones) compared to the brightness level of the monitor. I find at brightness levels that are comfortable to me pictures look dark while white webpages are very bright. I realize this is an inherent difficulty in LCD's but it seems more pronounced in this model than it should. Other than tha however the LCD is very warm and pleasing to the eye. Think high end Trinitron without the headaches. Also I'm not sure how other monitors are but you can't adjust contrast, color temp if you're using DVI(which you want to use!). The only other slight irritation is that when certain color combinations of webpages are scrolled, theres a fluttering effect which is mildly annoying, and which doesnt occur on my laptops LCD screen. In gaming the unit is great, awesome even. But don't forget you'll need a 2ghz+ cpu and a 9700pro to play recent games acceptably in the native 1280x1024 resolution.

Technically the CML174 supports 256,000 colors. They did not achieve fast pixel response by sacrificing colors. They use a circuit called FRC. FRC stands for "Frame Rate Control". FRC is a method of interpolating more colors than a display can actually produce by quickly alternating between two colors. For example, gray could be created by alternating between black and white many times very quickly. I cannot see a difference between the CML174 and a monitor marketed as a 16.7M color monitor.

Tested 3 Games: RTCW: 1248 x 1024 32 Bit Color...Vsynch enabled through registry tweak. NO Ghosting or Blur. Spectacular color! Jedi Knight II: 1248 x 1024 32 Bit Color. This is the game that I had so much blurring with the Samsung 191T...No Ghosting or Blur. Smooth, crisp action with spectacular Color! Need for Speed-Hot Pursuit II: 1248 x 1024 32 Bit Color. Again...very fast action. No Blur or Ghosting. Clean, crisp action...even at 150 MPH... I Can't believe this monitor. Hitachi Actually did it. As the review says...it is the BEST Multimedia monitor out as yet...PERIOD! Watched three different types of DVD to see what playback quality would be like: Toy Story 2: Beautiful detail and color...no ghosting or blur. The Rookie: Viewed the game scenes...where action is fast...didn't even make the monitor sweat. Harry Potter: Very dark scenes. Contrast and varying degrees of dark and color pass with flying colors. I LOVE THIS MONITOR!!!!!!
