I recently purchased a Zeal because I was tired of paying $30 a month for a data plan I only used occasionally. The $15 a month 150MB plan is extremely overpriced and why even bother with a data plan if you are not going to use more than 150MG? (opinion) I started looking for a new phone that still had a good keyboard and basic features that did not require a data plan. I saw someone with the Alias 2 about 3 months ago and I was impressed with a keyboard that takes advantage of eink to produce keys with the flexibility of a digital display with the advantage of actual keys. The keyboard feels great and the changing key design works perfectly. My only complaint is sometimes the phone resets when switching for portrait to landscape and the extremely thin phone makes it difficult to open in landscape. The hinge also feels a little flimsy, but this is a necessary evil to provide the dual flip feature and I doubt it will break.
My major complaints are with the dated 2.0 Mega Pixel camera and the 2.5mm headset output. Really? Even the Alias 2 had this features and this is an easy upgrade to 3.2Mega pixel and 3.5mm. I am also irritated that these phones have no problem excepting mp3 music, but refuse to recognize them as ringtones. Even when reduced to less than 500 Kb and 29 seconds, the phone will not recognize it as a ringtone.
Overall this is my favorite nonsmart phone because of its large design and great keyboard that allows me to send text messages rapidly. I think many manufactures should take note of the eink design because it is the best of both worlds providing solid keys with a virtual keyboard.
