Sony Mylo 2 reviews

I looooove my Sony Mylo. Firstly, there has been a few updates and you are now able to create videos on the COM 2. It has everything that I need to stay in touch or communicate. Skype feature allows you to make calls thus omitting the need for a cellphone. With aim, I'm able to send instant messages at anytime. It has a good battery life I'd say 5 hrs without AC. I love the text editor, I'm a writer so this is key for me. You can synchronize this with your pc, upload docs, music, vids. Has widgets for facebook, youtube, google and a couple others. This is a communicating device and I think it gives 100% as far as that goes plus more (being able to watch videos, listen to music, taking pics, creating videos, playing games). I'm definitely a techie and I'll say GO FOR IT, if you are thinking about buying one!!!!

As of this date the Mylo 2 can be picked up NEW on ebay for atleast $200.00 less than an Iphone (if you want to keep comparing it to a cellphone). I paid $175 for mine new and I acutally got it to replace my PSP because i stopped playing umds and games. This device has huge video and audio playback features. NO UNLOCKING! NO ITUNES! no being raped by apple on a monthly basis. If you like shelling out alot of money for something thats going to be replaced and not updated. Get an iphone. I hung on to my PSP for 6yrs Sony kept sending out firmware updates. the same will be true for the mylo 2. it is not a cell phone. once you buy it, its yours. you wont be leasing it like a certain other overrated device.

I bought this one last summer. I was thinking of buying Itouch. However, this one looked much better and better spec such as camera, Skype, keyboard..... But, Since i bought this, SONY hasn't updated any new application. And now it costs only $140. I paid $300. I can't believe SONY discounts that much. I think SONY give up MYLO 2. I hope SONY spend more money for application like apple.

If you buy the pro duo memory it is a great media player device... especially for my TV programs from Tivo, and I am in the security field easily concealable while sitting on a post.

I recieved the MYLO2 about a week ago and have loved it ever since. In the morning I download BBC Pod Casts and listen to them on the way to work. I dont have to plug it inot a separate computer i.e. an IPOD. I aslo have the ability to download music and video from multiple sources unlike just the use of itunes w/ an IPOD. Overall this is a great device for travelers, especially international travels. The wi-fi access works perfectly. I have used it in numerous locations throughout the world and it has yet to fail me. Before I had an IPOD Touch and I have to say that this system runs circles around it. By the way it is "NOT A PHONE". But the cost of traveling with a blackberry is immense and this device is free.

Great for skype, aim, internet, and music all together. The bluetooth and bulkiness are down sides but not enough that i would get rid of my Mylo

First of all, this is not a cell phone. This is an internet communications device, and it is great! Why would I want to pay for a data plan on my cell phone when there's free wifi everywhere? Considering that Skype phones alone, which have no features at all except for the ability to make Skype calls (not even a web browser to login to web-based wifi) go for over $100, this is an excellent value. It fits nicely in my hand like a cell phone and helps save ton's of minutes on my cell phone with my SkypeOut plan. Although I originally bought this phone as a Skype phone, it has a lot of other great features. It has a web browser which is great for typical tasks such as checking email and facebook, not doing research. Memory can be added to play your mp3s and videos, which can make it an iPod replacement (I mean, who listens to 30GB of music on the go?). I haven't ever had trouble logging into any wifi network. AIM would have been nice, but lots of people just gchat now. This is great for traveling because it's light and compact. The only major con is that the battery only lasts like 3-4 hours if you leave the wifi on, but the charger is really light if you need to carry it with you. I would have also liked a Num lock so that I could dial numbers without having to hold down the "Num" button the whole time (but phone numbers are only 11 digits, so it's not a big deal).

CNET is a great place to find out the strengths and weaknesses of a product but in the case of the Sony Mylo 2, I think they were off the mark. If I had listened to the review that CNET published, I would not have gotten the Sony Mylo 2. Thank goodness I did not but instead listened to a good friend who had the device and recommended it.

The Sony Mylo 2 is a great device and the best part is that it is truly Wifi only. CNET marked this as a weakness but in effect I believe it is it?s greatest strength. There is no hidden costs and no contracts. I am a little tired of getting the proverbial ?nickel and dime? act by cell phone companies and ISP?s. I did not want to pay yet another bill for a service. The Mylo is 100% free.

The Mylo 2 has one of the best browsers I have seen on a portable device and really displays web pages extremely well in the format that they were intended. This was one of the main reasons I got the Mylo over the Ipod touch. The Mylo?s browser can be a little slow at times but the display really makes up for this. It is crystal clear and extremely sharp for a portable device. The browser is Linux based and sometimes does not display a website correctly but in 95% of the cases, it is just fine.

The Mylo 2 also does a great job with Youtube videos due to the inclusion of Flash 3 lite. You can watch all the video?s that you would on your desktop.

Placing home videos and other movies on the Mylo 2 can prove to be a little challenging due to the conversion process. There are free applications for converting videos to the PSP format or, if you can find it, Sony has the Image Converter 2 software that also does a great job of converting the video. The videos are extremely clear and sharp on the Mylo 2. There is a switch that allows you to expand the videos out somewhat to almost give a wide-screen appearance. I have enjoyed my favorite movies aboard a jetliner, on a train and on a break from work with the Mylo 2.

Music is extremely easy to put on the device as the device, once connected to your desktop. shows up as another drive. Just slide your music in various formats right onto the Mylo. No Apple I-Tunes required for this device! It sounds great. I do wish that Sony had put a standard jack into the Mylo 2 versus the proprietary cable required to plug your headphones in.

In my opinion, Sony has done such a terrible job of marketing this device as they have done with so many products in the past. I think this is truly why the Mylo 2 was taken off the market. Knowing that this was the case, I scoffed up another spare Mylo 2 from a Sony Outlet Store that was on display. I have truly gotten to rely on this device and never want to be without it.

Skype is included and sounds absolutely fantastic. It is probably the best sounding version of Skype that I have heard on any portable type device. I use Skype often as it saves some of the calls I would have to make with my cell phone.

If you can find a Mylo 2, get one. You won?t regret it. As a side note, CNET?s review said that the Mylo 2 was geared to the 14 to 22 year olds. Well I am over 50 and think that the Mylo is a great little device! Would I recommend it, ?heck yea in a heartbeat!? Please read all the specifications of the Device on the CNET site as I could not possibly list all the specifications of the device in this format.

I wish I had tested it before buying. Was not impress at all with overall speed and web experience. Can wait for a MID (Mobile Internet Device) this year or whatever Intel call it.

The Mylo Com2 is a work in progress. It works well enough but it needs better operating software and more system memory. A few web sites won't load and others momentarily hang.

Sony decided to aim the Mylo at those who don't want to pay a monthly cell phone or wifi connect fee but want portable internet access. I'd guess that works for teens, but it has the potential for others, too. I bought it because it's going to be in my pocket when I travel or in my tankbag when I'm on a long bike trip. I look forward to stopping at a McDonalds for cup of coffee, check my email, book a room or make a Skype call while I'm at it. I can wander anywhere in North America and know where I'll be able to use it and that is very attractive. If Sony hadn't included the Wayport wifi I might not have bothered....
