I just bought a brand-new DVD (from Sony pictures) of The Da Vinci Code. It has a goldish hue on the data side. My player doesn't recognize it.
Also: It seems to take forever to load a DVD.

I picked this up at the Sony outlet store for $250 with 3 year warranty. The DVD playback is AWESOME ! Ease of recording, menu, confugurability are great !!! Recorded playback of video is good. Sound on recorded playback is OKay (but I'm picky). This player compliments my 55" LCD projection WEGA perfect. If you care, the style of the enclosure is very nice.
This does a great job with the video at SP 2 hour speed. Use namebrand DVDs, and no coasters; BUT, SONY has screwed-us! You cannot use DVD-R that have the capability to record at 16x speed, even though the discs say 1x-16x, this recorder will NOT RECOGNIZE the 16x speed DVD-R's, so you cannot record minus R format unless you find the older dics. As far as the READ/WRITE DVD's 2x speed labelled discs work, but I have not tried the 4x DVD+RW yet to verify compatability. If anybody knows a workaround for the DVD-R blank disc problem, please advise. Otherwise, well-ventilated, decent quality unit that would get a rating of 10 IF it could do DVD+R, and DVD-DL- AND work with the latest 16x speed capable disks.
