Reviewer goes on and on about TomTom app. Use what you like though as that app isn't needed and this review isn't based on it. Navigon is pretty good.
Someone else mentioned Droid. That's a beta google app that requires a data connection. Many others need maps on the device. Someone mentioned price. Go find another similar mount with speaker & GPS for cheaper.
Here's what i know. I commute an hour to work each day. Having the iphone front and center on the dash is worth the premium. It doesn't have to be a GPS all the time, but fills that need well when necessary. I've never used a case for any phone so that's not an issue. Jailbreak lets you listen to more than just itunes while using a nav app.
I could pay similar for a standalone and in fact have owned them since 2003 or so. But i don't have room for two devices. Don't have time to tweak a standalone, put in addresses, maintain current maps on it, etc when it's all on the phone.
