Reviewer goes on and on about TomTom app. Use what you like though as that app isn't needed and this review isn't based on it. Navigon is pretty good.
Someone else mentioned Droid. That's a beta google app that requires a data connection. Many others need maps on the device. Someone mentioned price. Go find another similar mount with speaker & GPS for cheaper.
Here's what i know. I commute an hour to work each day. Having the iphone front and center on the dash is worth the premium. It doesn't have to be a GPS all the time, but fills that need well when necessary. I've never used a case for any phone so that's not an issue. Jailbreak lets you listen to more than just itunes while using a nav app.
I could pay similar for a standalone and in fact have owned them since 2003 or so. But i don't have room for two devices. Don't have time to tweak a standalone, put in addresses, maintain current maps on it, etc when it's all on the phone.

Not worth the price... in fact not worth using at all.. too frustrating to drive with.
As the most often complain for the iPhone is its short battery life, keeping the battery 'healthy' should be a top priority. I own a 3gs myself.
Nice idea, but pre recession price.
Great except the design flaw - where it rotates upon hitting bumps in the road. I can't recommend this product.
Good value for $159. I think this is the best dock for the tomtom software and works well for me.
I was saying this as soon as I heard about the Sprint GPS nav app for Blackberry and other Sprint phones from by brother who uses it: The $200 and up stand alone GPS units may just disappear if most people will have this in their phones with their data plans.
Another idea: car in-dash GPS systems better be lower priced going forward or else who would want to spend $1,000-1,300 for them if most will have it on their phone and get the sound via Bluetooth dashboards or speakerphones.??
Unless people will agree to pay that level for a larger display in the dash and the large display by itself in terms of hardware cost DOES NOT justify $1G to $1.3G
I've not found any car holder that has all these functions. In almost every area the iPhone has meager car-performance, this holder compensates. Sound is amplified throgh the microphone, audio out is clear and loud, and GPS is much more accurate. The holder itself is very practical and easy to use. It will hold an iPhonoe with protective cover as well. I've connected the holder to a FM sender (IceMan iPhone holder) thorugh the aux out, the only thing I do every morning before driving to work is mount the iPhone: the bluetooth connection doesn't initiate until the phone is mounted.
$99 for any smartphone app is ridiculous! Especially when GPS navigation is now free on the Droid. GPS manufacturers are looking for some way to hold onto their market share and have already had to reduce prices drastically, but with a pricetag like this, it is doubtful to provoke many people to buy it. Also, considering that a lot of people use some kind of case for their iPhones, having to mess around with removing/replacing it every time they get in or out of their vehicle is sure to be another turn off.
